Most often I would recommend using Biogeneric Individual as a design mode when restoring the single posterior tooth. The software does a great job proposing a crown with proper anatomy and contours all on its own. However, there are instances in the posterior that arise every now and then where we would prefer to copy the existing anatomy of a tooth pre-operatively. Examples are cases such a crown replacement when the tooth is a clasping tooth for a partial or if a patient fractures a tooth in the middle of Invisalign treatment. In these instances, we need to very accurately copy the tooth prior to preparation. In the case below, our patient has an existing nightguard and was concerned about the fit after a new crown. The challenge here was the endodontic access hole in the middle of the crown. The beauty of BioCopy is that we don’t necessarily need to copy the entire tooth. Simply encircle the critical areas and leave the software to fill in the rest biogenerically. Provided your pre-op imaging and post-op imaging are accurate, your crown will be an exact duplicate of the original.
