One of the tool functions in 4.2.x that seems to cause a little confusion and anxiety is the Hide Neighbor function. This tool is available in the Shape or Form area in the Tool Wheel, and when activated, hides or removes the interproximal portion of the adjacent tooth next to the tooth you are working on. It is available as an option only when working on multiple restorations adjacent to one another. For example, it is NOT available when working on a single unit restoration, but when doing crowns on tooth #13 and #14 the tool is available. It is another option for users to access the interproximal surface of a proposal during design to help develop contacts, embrasures, and emergence profiles. This area of the proposal can be accessed with the trim model function but the hide neighbor function allows you to view the entire model to compare all other contacts and contours for the most accurate proposal for the arch and surrounding teeth. Once activated in either Form or Shape, it will be active until turned off or unchecked. It is a great tool when used effectively. If you hate it….uncheck the button and it will go away.
