Bob Conte The long awaited release of Ivoclar’s emax abutment block finally happened last week! It was released at this year’s Yankee Dental Congress in Boston. The block has created quite a buzz and now allows dentists to create their own custom abutments in-office. This is a dramatic improvement over the past workflow where we either milled our abutments out of zirconia and sintered or used an outside lab like Sirona’s Infinident to assist us.
The miracle in this process is actually in the powerful software. The crown is designed full contour and then the file is magically split into custom abutment and crown. Mill the emax abutment. Mill the emax crown. Put them all together and you get a perfectly fitted complex of crown and abutment. Take advantage of this process as soon as you can. We have the blocks and it is already in your 4.2 software!
