Firing the Emax Abutment Blocks

In a few months the emax abutment blocks will be available.  These blocks as you know are the ones that will allow you to do the chair side custom abutments with the CEREC 4.2 software.  As soon as the software is released, you will be able to watch all the videos on how to do a custom abutment.  But when you actually mill the "emax with a hole" block, there are certain things you have to do to properly crystallize the emax abutment.

First, don't use the regular firing pins.  Ivoclar will have available the special firing pin that you see below.  The picture below that I snapped with my iPhone while at the Ivoclar factory this past March shows the smaller, thinner firing pin that will be required to hold the abutments.  You can see the regular firing pin as a comparison.  In addition to the smaller firing pin, you need to be sure that the side of the abutment does not touch the firing pin.  Use a material like Object Fix to support the abutment on the firing pin.     Its difficult to tell from the photo, but the abutment is not resting directly on the firing pin. The abutment is resting on Object Fix and the Object Fix is on the pin.  At no time should you have direct contact of the abutment and the pin.   We are waiting on the final FDA approval for the the blocks and of course the release of the 4.2 software.  Check back soon and as soon as we have them available, we will be posting many more cases of these abutments on the website.
