Darren Greenhalgh I have often wondered how many injections I have given over my dental career thus far and how many I will give before I hang up my loupes. I know all of cerec doctors take great pride in delivering a painless injection.
I would like to offer a possible adjunct on how one can deliver anesthesia to potentially become even more painless than your current injections. I was taught this little pearl very early in my career and still use it often.
Here is the basic idea. For most injections we find the desired site and insert the tip of the needle through the tissue and slowly inject the solution. The trick I was taught and have found to be really effective in many situations is to place the tip of the needle at the desired site – don’t insert the needle – rather, “PULL” the tissue over the tip of the needle.
Give it a try, you might find less patients give that initial “ouch” reaction during anesthetic delivery.
