CEREC No Prep Veneers
I get a lot of questions on how to do no prep veneers. It's actually pretty simple, yet very technically difficult to be honest. I'm seating this case tomorrow and will post the finals, but just wanted to guide you through the process first to start the discussion.
This is a new patient that was referred for me for some cosmetic work. She told me she didn't like her smile. As soon as I took a quick peek, I thought no brainer, she needs her veneers re-done. They have incorrect shape, proportions, etc.. I thought this would be a slam dunk. However, after listening to her, that didn't bother her at all. In fact she liked them. The only thing she didn't like is the collapsed buccal corridor on the right side. She was getting married and hated the way it looked on photographs.
She had some abfraction lesions starting on 4 and 5. I didn't want to prep these teeth at all, but knew that they would be problematic for me. So I just added resin to them (no prep). I will post the pictures of this tomorrow after the resins were placed (did them last week).
When I do no prep veneers, I always do them indirect. You will see why below. So at this point I just had my assistant snap a quick impression and send her on her way.
So here is the process:
- You call them veneers in the software (not crowns... trust me).
- We are doing 4 and 5 clinically, but you cannot call #4 a veneer, so we are going to designate the teeth as 5 and 6
- Straight biogeneric with veneer thickness parameter set at 500. Will give an initial proposal of 500 microns
- Set the margin thickness at 250 minimum
- Draw margins so there is no undercuts at all in your path of insertion (set model axis as ideal)
- Complete the design
- After milling them both out, the margins will be very bulky. Use diamond wheels and polishers to thin the margin to a razor thin point.
I do indirect because it takes me about 30 minutes to contour, thin the margins, etc... Not worth doing chairside.
