Gordon - there are no reports of problems with debonds of the material, I have bonded in 100's of them and had none to date.
I have certainly noticed that it provides finer margins than EMax. It has become my favorite material.
One question that probably has a simple answer: How do you stand a premolar or anterior tooth upright after staining and glazing? I know the pad is recommended but I have unknowingly been using the cerec fixation paste with a sprue with no problems so far. What is the protocol for this?
For those long premolars that won't stand upright you can use the honeycomb tray and a platinum pin with a little Speed Paste in the Programat. If you have the Speedfire oven, just glaze most of the crown and lay it down on its side on the firing pad. You can then simply polish the interproximal side that is not glazed. There are no rules that say every surface needs glaze.
I have watched the video and I have a question regarding the bonding protocol. Not surprisingly Dentsply's Calibra products are recommended. I have been using Ivoclar's Etch & Prime for etching and silanating all glass ceramics and CeraSmart, followed by Scotchbond Universal/RelyX Ultimate. I also use Scotchbond Universal/RelyX Ultimate, with gentle air abrasion using a Danville Microetcher, for bonding CeraSmart Inlays and Onlays. I field tested Celtra Duo before it was rolled out and I have first used Scotchbond Universal/RelyX Ultimate with Vita's 5% HFL acid for etching, using Ivoclar's Monobond Plus for silanating. When Ivoclar rolled out Etch & Prime, I switched to that so as to combine the etching and silanating procedures into one step. I have had no debonds. Are there any strong opinions regarding using the Calibra system for bonding Celtra Duo only? Calibra can be used to bond any glass ceramic or composite material, just as can Scotchbond Universal/RelyX Ultimate. I have had such wonderful results with Etch & Prime, followed by Scotchbond Universal/RelyX Ultimate that I am reluctant to switch and more reluctant to carry more than one bonding system in my inventory. Any comments or suggestions?
Tom-
I would not make a habit of mixing and matching bonding agents and cements, as the materials have been developed to work together. I would stick with VarioLink with the Adhese pen(love this also), and if using Calibra use their Prime and Bond.
Anthony is right about mixing products. I to swear by the adhese pen. Looking to start using it for my operative also to keep inventory simpler and maybe less cost and waste. Using optibond solo right now with excellent track record.
