Anterior Case Design Tip
Here is a design tip I like to use when working on anterior cases. I always take a pre-op Biocopy image of the existing condition even if I'm not copying it direclty. I designate the case as Biogeneric individual and then add a Biocopy catalog in Acquisiton.
From there, I can use the Biocopy overlay to help determine my midline and incisal edge position. We've taught this before at our workshops, but I'm using another feature to help show the patient a nice before/after prior to milling.
In the design phase I will group the restorations together.
Next I can turn OFF the upper jaw catalog in Display Objects and turn ON my biocopy.
Now to give the patient a nice before/after view I simply toggle on/off the Restoration button in Display Objects to alternate between pre-op and design.
Great tip Meena! I do this routinely for every case. My team has just made this a habit. One of the other great benefits is to know where the tissue was before you packed cord. I think the tendency or temptation can be to over-contour anterior restorations with the fear of the “dreaded black triangle”. With the biocopy overlay, you can see where tissue is before.
Very nice. I assume you are turning on the grid function, lining up the pre-op, then adjusting the proposals to the grid. Something that could be very helpful would be the ability to "tack" the grid to the model once the scale and position is tuned in. This way the reference is not lost when the model is moved.
Using the additional biocopy folder is routine for every case anterior or posterior in our office. Not only can it be used this way but occasionally it bails me out when I get a questionable proposal.
Nice. I have a few questions: Are you doing this at a consult visit to help with presentation of an anterior case or is this at the prep appointment? Was this case done completely with bio individual without a waxup? Separate, sort of unrelated question: Is it possible to marginate a preop model and designate the restorations as veneers to get an "after" picture like this? So it would be basically a prepless veneer. It wouldn't work on every case, but one that you add incisal length and facial thickness to maybe. I don't know if that's possible. I've never thought to try.

This was done at the prep appointment. I use photoshop or pixelmator to do the pre-op consult for these cases. It's not as predictable to do a prepless veneer consult as the software proposal will be very unpredictable.

Also helps with identifying wear facets and allows recreating so you work with Pt's envelope of function
Great tip! Like you showed, can't say enough about how good the Biogeneric Individual proposals are, that we can do so many more of these cases without doing an analog/lab wax up.

I still do not attempt anteriors without a waxup, but it has been a few years since I attended level 4. I guess biogeneric proposals have improved in the last few updates. Maybe I'll try this. It definitely would save time and money on a waxup, although, to me, a good waxup does feel like a nice warm blanket in these cases.
